Nashat Filmon, Head of the Palestinian Bible Society claims Christians can help foster peace by acting as a bridge between Palestinians and Israelis. “On the ground it is a very hard, devastating situation. Palestinian Christians are between a rock and a hard place. They can easily be crushed by both sides. But we have the opportunity to build bridges to bring both sides together. It’s our task to be true peacemakers between people and between people and God.” Meanwhile, Tass Saada, Yasser Arafat’s converted former driver (see story, Days 17 & 18) spends much of his time in the West Bank and Gaza, helping Palestinians through his charitable organization, Seeds of Hope. He says Muslims in the Middle East are turning to Christ in record numbers. That’s why he is confident that peace will one day come to the region – the kind of peace that politicians can never bring.
